  • A non profit project I took on with a fellow engineer while living in Austin TX. I was excited to refresh my web skill by helping them modernize their website to help increase their outreach

  • We wanted to bring a website to help them spread their positive influence in the community

problem:

  • They needed a site that 1: Defined their mission to new clients, 2: was a hub for all the complex events they run throughout the year, and 3: Would be a hub for volunteers to sign up and connect.

  • Since most of the leaders of the ranch were unfamiliar with technology they had few ideas of where to start and as a non-profit had few funds to get there.

pain points:

  • I was working with a client that, while admitting they knew very little about web design, was also very opinionated on the way any copy was written, even if it would deter possible clients. Most of my time was doing some flows I didn't feel were ideal but as I was not the client they of course got the final say

hypothesis:

To help keep the system stable and in scope we needed to find ways of lowering the time developers were in the configuration system defining individual tasks and timers. Automation and thoughtful design should allow us to reduce the internal stress while not reducing user delight.
