The Challenge

Despite its importance, the redundancy of calorie tracking is a friction point to many peoples health journeys.

This challenge was inspired by my own and many others own health journey. I observed different friction points and challenges ranging from reducing variety of foods, failing to count "cheat: meals due to a since of failure, or simply quitting due to frustration and lack of results.

Research led to the following attributes being the possible causes to each of these food challenges-

Divided Attention

When starting an eating regiment there is a lot of new data and information a person is trying to retain and recall.

Decision Fatigue

Causes a direct impact on the ability of the individual to retain motivation for long term goals

Overwhelmed

Lives are busy and making easy albeit poor food decisions has become the norm.

Result

Success rates drop in proportion to the number of individual inputs required to track a meal. Meals involving more than 10 ingredients increase unlikelyhood to track the meal by 43.2%

How might we reduce friction to allow correct habit-induced eating and foster confidence in correctly choosing meals more intuitively, flexible and without cravings?

The Solution

CapNEat is a AI focused app that simplifies the task of calorie counting by using your camera to quick scan you meals. It uses your camera and your hand size to accurately predict your portion sizes as well as calorie input.

It also allows for intemized adjustments for things like oil and butter which may not be visible on the final meal. This smart app is designed to expedite your knowledge of what is being consuming to help inform decisions.
